Year 4 Teachers: Miss. Bragg (class teacher) 👩🏻🏫💛
Mrs. McGill (senior teaching assistant) 🌺
Mrs. Brace (teaching assistant) 🌈
Welcome to Year 4, here you will see some wonderful photos of our class learning, facing new challenges and most importantly...having fun in lessons! 😄
For the start of this Summer term, our History topic is all about The Roman Empire and how they invaded Britain in 43AD, and our Science topic is all about Electricity! We will be continuing with Decimals and then moving onto Money and Measurement within Maths and adapting the adventure narrative ’Mission Possible’ in Literacy!
P.E afternoons - Tuesday & Thursday
Year 4 Homework and Spellings will be uploaded onto Google Classroom every Friday, but you can also look at the homework/spellings on the pages below.
It is important that children read at least three times a week with their reading record signed. Remember your child can read any books from home and also read books on MyOn.
Don't forget about the Kids' Zone. Play games and visit some cool websites. You can vote for your favourites. 👍🏻
For PE this Summer half term, we have been learning Athletics and OAA. In athletics we have been focusing on running skills, throwing javelins and shot puts and also developing our triple jump technique. In OAA we have been taking part in team building activities on the yard and also down the school bank, using nature resources and solving problems together.
In D&T this half term we have been practising our cross and running stitching to create a bookmark. We then moved onto designing and creating a Roman Flag design of our choice. We considered what it’s purpose would be in 43AD and researched what colours and patterns we needed to include within our designs.
Our new Science topic is Electricity. We have been learning about electrons, incomplete/complete circuits, creating investigations based on circuits we would like to test, which include bulbs, buzzers, switches and motors.
During this half term our PE topic was cricket, we learnt how to bat, ball and field. We even enjoyed some games together!
Here we are learning in our Science topic all about sound. In some of our lessons we used drums and rice to observe vibrations, created an independent investigation creating string telephones and recording how sound travels through vibrations/how it changes with regards to distance. And we had a great time predicting the distance of musical instruments being played on the astroturf!
✖️💭Montreal Maths Day➗📝
What a fantastic time we have had this week back in school and to finish it off we had a Maths Day! As a class we played Maths Jenga, classic board games, created Maths Fortune Tellers, estimated how many dice, cubes and paintbrushes were in the tubs (one of us won a prize for the best estimation), we played the ‘bean bag’ game with an addition twist outside, interactive Maths games such a TTRS and ‘Hit the Button’ and to end the day we took part in an Orienteering task... PE, Geography and Maths all in one!
🌲🌧 Forest School & Science Week 🧬💫
We are so lucky to have our Forest School day the week we come back to school. We created bird houses, went on scavenger hunts, created nests which linked to Science Week and also had a lot of fun in the pouring rain! It was British Science Week, we created ‘exploding lunch bags’, took part in a Chromatography partner task, watched how milk can turn into a rainbow and used corn flour to create ‘quick sand’. This week was all about having fun with Science and thinking about innovating ideas and what amazing ideas British Scientists have discovered over the years! There isn’t many photos of Science Week in Year 4 as we were having way too much fun with Miss Bragg!
